Peter
Cosgrave was born in Dublin, Ireland. Peter studied at the
National College of Art and Design, Dublin. He was awarded
a Fulbright scholarship in 1986 to study at the Academy of
Art College, San Francisco. Peter came to Australia in 1986
and worked on the Australian Bicentenary event as leading
hand set builder for First State '88 at Darling Harbour.
He has traveled throughout Australia and worked at Balgo
(Wirrunanu) community, Great Sandy Desert W.A.
Cosgrave
has been influenced by social, political and environmental
issues, this is reflected within his art and installations.
His work is spectator and participant activated using lighting,
sound, smells and spectators reaction within his installations.
His paintings reflect the beauty of nature and our environment.
Performance
pieces sometimes feature fire. Here a headpiece made of copper
tubing which is fed from a gas cylinder and carried in a wheel
barrow filled with potatoes. It provided a unique spectacle
for the Maleny Folk Festival in 1992. Fire is also used in Stairway
to Heaven which which has been installed at the Woodford
Folk Festival site. |
