Cosgrave has been influenced by social, political and  environmental issues, this is reflected within his art and installations. His work is spectator and participant activated using lighting, sound, smells and spectators reaction within his installations. His paintings reflect the beauty of nature and our environment.

Performance pieces sometimes feature fire. Here a headpiece made of   copper tubing which is fed from a gas cylinder and carried in a wheel barrow filled with potatoes. It provided a unique spectacle for the Maleny Folk Festival in 1992. Fire is also used in Stairway to Heaven which which has been installed at the Woodford Folk Festival site.
